Which Weather Station for My School?

If you have been doing some research already on a weather station for your school, you will have seen there are various weather stations on the market that are able to store data on a PC for later analysis, to create graphs, generate summaries, and more. There are two weather stations that we recommend for use in education: the Davis Instruments Vantage Pro2 range, and the Davis Instruments Vantage Vue. Other models are too basic, not robust enough thus their longevity is short, and do not give the accuracy required.

Our Top Recommendations for School Weather Stations

Davis Vantage Pro 2

Robust, accurate, updates every 2.5 seconds and the wireless version has a signal range of up to 300 metres giving you greater flexibility on mounting options. With an optional WeatherLink Data Logger added you can archive recorded data at intervals from 1 minute out to 2 hours. When set at 2 hours, the data logger will store up to 213 days’ worth of data before the memory is full and overwrites on a First-In-First-Out basis. There is the option of using a WeatherLink Live for connecting your weather station directly to the Internet 24/7, even without a computer.

Davis Vantage Pro 2 systems are very expandable, including options for solar & UV sensors plus individual soil moisture, temperature/humidity and leaf wetness stations, all reporting into the same Vantage Pro 2 console. See Davis Accessories and Upgrades.

The Davis Vantage Pro2 systems are generally available from stock and covered by a 2-year warranty.

Davis Vantage Vue

Popular with primary schools on a budget. The Vantage Vue provides accurate and reliable basic weather monitoring in a self-contained, easy-to-install system.

The outdoor sensor suite is easy to install and starts sending data wirelessly to your console. You’ll see current weather conditions, including indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed and direction, dew point and rainfall. You’ll also get weather forecast icons, moon phase, sunrise/sunset times, graphing of weather trends, alarms and more. WeatherLink computer and internet connection options are available as per the Vantage Pro 2.

Please note you cannot expand the Vantage Vue with any of the Davis additional sensors such as temperature, solar, UV, soil moisture and soil temperature.

The Davis Vantage Vue systems are generally available from stock and covered by a 2-year warranty from Weather Shop.

If using a Davis station, your school can join the GLOBE programme which enables students to measure the local environment at their school, and compare it with other schools around the world.
