Read on for tips on how to maintain and clean a Davis Vantage Vue or Davis Vantage Pro 2 Weather Station.

    Anemometer

Your anemometer should provide years of service. In some areas however, spiders and insects can affect operation. If wind speed seems low, use an allen key wrench to loosen the setscrew on the side of the wind cups. Remove the wind cups, and clean the exposed portion of the shaft with a damp cloth

  4. Weather Monitoring with British Antarctic Survey

The British Antarctic Survey purchased their first Davis Vantage Pro from us in 2004 to use on the air strip at Sky-Blu, http://www.antarctica.ac.uk/Living_and_Working/Stations/Sky_Blu/index.html. The instrument is used to give reliable information to their support aircraft during take off and landings. The groomed blue ice runway is up to 1.2 km in length and 50 m wide, permanently marked by flags.

A second purchase in 2005 means the new Davis Vantage Pro 2, with its increased transmission range of up to 300 metres, is to be located at Fossil Bluff later in the year, http://www.antarctica.ac.uk/Living_and_Working/Stations/Fossil_Bluff/index.html. This site is a facility for refueling aircraft

  7. WS8610 Additional Sensors

If you want to add more remote sensors to the WS8610, you must go through the following steps BEFORE putting the batteries in the remotes:
    - Mark the first logger [1]
    - Follow the instructions: Learning a transmitter (channel) to set up the channels you wish to use (say 3)
    - Follow the instructions: Setting the number of transmitters to be saved into the system memory.
Once this has been done, put the batteries in the second remote sensor and notice that a symbol of concentric arcs of a circle appears again - showing that the sensor is communicating with the logger. At the same time, the logger number [2] will be displayed on the main screen. Mark the logger [2]
Once this has settled down, repeat this for the third remote sensor, noting the communication symbol and the logger number [3]. Mark the logger [3]
The unit will then be receiving signals from each of the remotes.

  8. WS2300/2350 PC Connection

There are a few possibilities when you experience no connection or no download.

The station is a serial data logger so it need to connect to correct serial port. On conventional PCs this is the 9 pin D connector. Serial is always the preferable connection as it is hardware controlled and not a software device such as USB. However today most consumer PCs and all lap tops come without a serial connection.

If they are using a USB to serial adapter then they need to have installed the drivers that came with the adapter. This will create a VCP (virtual com port) and again they need to know the port number it creates. The driver software will usually tell them this otherwise they can find it from their Windows Device Manager > Ports.

Once they do this communication should be OK.

Very occasionally we hear reports that the station stops receiving data. This is usually because something has affected the data logger, possibly an electrical
